How to adopt a healthy post-holiday routine

With the arrival of autumn, our bodies encourage us to get back to normal after a season of relaxation during the summer. During these months, it is common to relax our eating and exercise routines. But how do we get back to our routines without resorting to extreme dieting or strenuous exercise? The answer lies in a holistic approach to health and wellness – discover the best healthy post-holiday routine!

Irene Domínguez, food technologist and leader of our clinic’s Nutrition department, shares valuable tips on how to face this return to routine in a healthy and sustainable way. Instead of resorting to restrictive diets, we advocate a positive approach to food and exercise, allowing us to adapt habits gradually to achieve significant changes in our overall wellbeing.

5 steps to a healthy post-holiday routine

  1. Prioritise rest: Establishing regular sleep routines is essential to control nighttime snack cravings. Try to set a realistic time for dinner and make sure you have time to relax before bedtime. A good night’s rest is the first step to reducing stress and getting back into a routine.
  2. Early dinner: Introducing hours of overnight fasting into our routines is beneficial for the body. If we are not used to fasting, we will start with a period of at least 12 hours without food between dinner and breakfast. This helps the body to rest and rejuvenate.
  3. Balancing our dishes: Design our meals with the right proportions. Fill two palms with vegetables, one with lean protein and one with healthy carbohydrates such as quinoa or brown rice. Maintaining a balanced carbohydrate intake is key to preventing cravings for unhealthy snacks.
  4. Nutrition and digestive health: Enrich our diet with foods rich in Omega 3, vitamins and fibre, such as salmon, nuts, avocado and berries. Consider incorporating fermented foods such as sauerkraut and yoghurt. Do not underestimate the importance of drinking enough water.
  5. Get moving: Physical activity is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Spend at least 20 minutes a day doing strength exercises at home or enjoy outdoor activities such as walking, dancing or taking classes with friends. Variety in physical activity can be fun and effective.
