Thalassotherapy Wellness Clinic
Some wellness clinics are built around a trend.
Palasiet was built around the sea.Founded in 1963 by Dr Joaquín Farnós, Spain's first specialist in seawater therapy, Palasiet has been drawing on the healing power of the Mediterranean for over sixty years. We're based in Benicàssim, right on the coast, and everything we do starts with one simple belief: the sea is the best medicine there is, provided you know how to use it.
A clinic built to treat, not just to relax
Palasiet's facilities have been completely renovated — though not softened. The same clinical rigour that has defined us since the sixties runs through every space, updated to meet the standards of the best health and wellness destinations in Europe.
Thalassotherapy pools, private treatment rooms, physiotherapy, aesthetics and movement areas flow across bright, open spaces with direct access to the natural surroundings. Whether you're a hotel guest or visiting as an external client, you'll receive the same level of personalised attention from your very first appointment.
The original thalassotherapy clinic in Spain, since 1963
Dr Joaquín Farnós introduced the therapeutic use of seawater to Spain in 1963 — decades before thalassotherapy became a byword for luxury wellness. What began as a pioneering medical project has since grown into Spain’s longest-established thalassotherapy centre and one of Europe’s most respected references for health tourism.
Real Mediterranean seawater
We use water drawn directly from the Mediterranean, processed to guarantee its quality and heated to a therapeutic temperature of around 35–36°C. At that warmth, the body absorbs minerals, trace elements and marine salts more effectively, which is precisely the point.
Biomarine circuit and therapeutic treatments
Our thalassotherapy clinic includes large heated seawater pools, a full biomarine circuit with water and air jets, saunas, a steam room, hydromassage baths, a phlebitic circuit and dedicated marine bathing areas, all under specialist medical supervision.
Treatments range from seaweed and marine mud wraps to targeted hydrotherapy, each designed to improve circulation, ease joint and muscular pain, support detoxification, regenerate the skin and reduce stress. These aren’t add-ons. They’re the core of what we do.
Medical, aesthetic and wellness services
At Palasiet, health isn’t divided into departments. Integrative medicine, medical aesthetics, hair medicine, gynaecology, nutrition, physiotherapy, physical training, emotional support and Eastern therapies all form part of a single coordinated plan, shaped around your goals and condition, not a fixed menu.
Our team stays involved from your initial assessment right through to reviewing your results. That continuity matters.
The Palasiet Method
The Palasiet Method is built on five pillars: thalassotherapy, physical activity, specialist medical treatments, nutrition and emotional wellbeing.
What that means in practice is that nothing is treated in isolation. Your seawater therapy, your nutrition plan, your physical training and your emotional support are designed together, by a team who talk to each other. It's a more complete approach — and, we'd argue, a more effective one.
Our medical team
Palasiet’s team includes doctors, physiotherapists, nutritionists, therapists and aesthetics specialists, all with long careers in integrative health and thalassotherapy. The personalised attention our guests receive is only possible because every member of the team knows their area in depth and works closely with the rest.
More than six decades of clinical experience
Since 1963, Palasiet has helped thousands of people reach their health and wellness goals. That experience shows in protocols that have been refined over decades, in the ability to personalise treatment with real precision, and in a clinical perspective that doesn’t stop at the end of your stay.
Your assessment starts on arrival
Every stay begins with an individual medical assessment. From that starting point, the team builds a treatment plan around your goals, your physical condition and your actual needs. There’s no off-the-shelf programme, just yours.

FAQs about our Thalassotherapy Wellness Clinic
What is thalassotherapy, and what happens at a thalasso clinic?
A thalasso clinic is a medically supervised centre that uses the therapeutic properties of seawater, marine mud, seaweed and sea air to support and improve physical health. The word comes from the Greek thalassa — meaning sea — and thalassotherapy as a clinical discipline is based on the well-documented effects of marine elements on the body: remineralisation, improved circulation, muscular relaxation, skin regeneration and stress reduction.
The key difference from a standard spa is medical oversight. A thalasso clinic operates under clinical protocols with qualified health professionals who tailor treatments to each person’s specific needs. Palasiet has been Spain’s leading thalasso clinic since 1963 — using water drawn directly from the Mediterranean, which is among the warmest and most mineral-rich seas in Europe.
What is a wellness clinic?
A wellness clinic is a specialist centre that combines medicine, therapy and treatment to improve physical, mental and emotional health in a joined-up way. Unlike a conventional spa or beauty clinic, a wellness clinic like Palasiet works from an individual medical diagnosis — with evidence-based protocols and a multidisciplinary team involved throughout.
What does a wellness clinic offer?
A wellness clinic offers a coordinated range of medical and therapeutic services built around each person’s health goals. At Palasiet that includes thalassotherapy, clinical nutrition, physiotherapy, medical aesthetics, physical training and emotional support — all guided by an initial medical assessment and adjusted as the programme progresses.
What's the difference between a wellness clinic and a spa?
A wellness clinic includes medical diagnosis, personalised programmes and clinically grounded treatments. A spa, broadly speaking, offers relaxation and beauty services without medical input. At Palasiet, every stay — whether a single treatment or a full residential programme — starts with a medical assessment that shapes everything that follows.
What sets Palasiet apart from other wellness clinics in Spain?
A few things, honestly. We’ve been doing this since 1963 — longer than almost anyone in Europe. We use real Mediterranean seawater, not a reconstituted mineral solution. Our medical team has decades of experience in integrative health and thalassotherapy specifically, not wellness as a general category. And the sea isn’t just a backdrop here — it’s the reason we exist.
Is Spain a good destination for a wellness retreat?
Spain is one of Europe’s strongest choices for a wellness retreat — and not just for the climate. The Mediterranean coastline combines year-round mild temperatures with genuinely therapeutic seawater, and Spain has a long tradition of medically supervised health tourism that goes well beyond the standard hotel spa.
Palasiet sits on that coastline, in Benicàssim on the Costa del Azahar, and has been offering medically supervised thalassotherapy and wellness programmes since 1963. It’s a different proposition from a yoga retreat or a detox weekend — longer stays, genuine clinical oversight, and treatments built around what your body actually needs rather than a fixed menu.
